Ski area Fichtelberg

The Fichtelberg ski area is the leading winter sports region of the Ore Mountains in Saxony. For centuries this area was characterized by mining, but now tourism has also gained a foothold. The Fichtelberg (1215 m) is located in southwestern Saxony near the Czech border. The ski resort is situated on its highest peak and the Little Fichtelberg (1206 m). The slopes of both mountains are accessed by several elevators. This family-friendly ski area has not too difficult slopes and ski passes are still old-fashioned affordable.

A fun activity for the whole family is a descent on the toboggan run. Another remarkable fact about the Fichtelberg ski area is that it is home to Germany's oldest cable car. Still today, this ski lift faithfully drops winter athletes off at the top of the ski area. Mountain restaurant Himmelsleiter is the place to recharge your batteries. Recommended is the local 'Rostbrätel'. Then you can make a wonderful descent to the spa town of Oberwiesenthal. On the Czech side of this mountain is the ski area Klínovec (Keilberg). Here you can use the ski bus for free when you are in possession of a multi-day ski pass.
