Ellmau is situated at an altitude of 820 metres, with the Wilder Kaiser on one side and the Astberg and Hartkaiser on the other. The village has a very convenient location, just under 20 kilometres from the border town of Kufstein. A toll sticker for Austria is unnecessary if you come from Germany by car. Ellmau is an atmospheric and lively ski destination, satisfying all winter sports enthusiasts' needs. The village centre is characterised by a charming church surrounded by numerous houses and accommodations.

Especially after a fresh layer of snow has just fallen! There are accommodations in different price ranges, plenty of restaurants, cosy bars and lovely shops. Moreover, from the village, you are on the slopes of SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental in no time. Ellmau attracts a broad winter sports audience because of its versatility.
From Ellmau, several lifts give you access to the pistes of SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental. On the left, you can access the Astberg and on the right, the Hartkaiser. From the latter, you can continue skiing towards the other Kaiser villages of Scheffau and Söll or cross over to Brixen im Thale, Hopfgarten, Itter and Westendorf. With over 270 km of runs, nobody will be running out of slopes any time soon! For beginners and families, there are beautiful practice slopes in the village. Still, there are also plenty of blue slopes higher up the mountain. Advanced skiers can ski beautiful tours, such as the KitzSkiWelt and SkiWelt tours. There is also no shortage of snug mountain huts. During a winter sports holiday in Ellmau, you will always find a nice break spot. Fun fact: the Hartkaiser hosts a large, cosy Christmas market every year.
Ellmau is a family-friendly winter sports destination, perfect for a winter holiday with children. The village offers all kinds of child-friendly accommodation and plenty of facilities for families. Particularly family-friendly is the 10-seater Hartkaiserbahn with an extra-long boarding area. Erlebniseldorado Hartkaiser at the lift's mountain station includes a children's restaurant, childcare (Ellmi's Kids Club, from 2 years old) and ski school. The Ellmauer Kinderland and Bobo Kinderclub also offer childcare options. Also, be sure to visit adventure world Ellmi's Winterwelt for winter adventure.
From Ellmau, you can also take beautiful trips on cross-country skis. Around the Wilder Kaiser are plenty of beautiful cross-country skiing trails suitable for both classic and skating techniques and perfectly groomed. Here you ski through one of Tyrol's most stunning natural landscapes. In nearby Scheffau am Wilder Kaiser, there is an evening cross-country trail where you can ski in the dark.
Fans of winter hiking have come to the right place in Ellmau. Many kilometres of well-prepared hiking trails surround the cosy winter resort. You can get out into nature in hiking boots or special snowshoes. Together with the other Kaiser villages Söll, Scheffau and Going, Ellmau offers a hiking network of over 140 km of trails. Want to hike in the mountains, too? Then you can use the SkiWelt Wanderpas to go up and down twice a day with the gondolas from all SkiWelt villages.
Fans of après-ski will be in no short supply in Ellmau. There are plenty of great pubs and bars where you can have a drink after skiing. The Ellmauer Skinacht on Monday evening is the weekly highlight. With a glass of Glühwein in hand, you can enjoy ski shows, a PistenBully parade and live music. Excellent bars are: Fabels, Ellmauer Alm and Memory.
There is also plenty of entertainment off the slopes. After skiing, the Kaiserbad, an indoor swimming pool with a spa and outdoor pool, is a fun outing. Another fun activity is tobogganing. From the Astberg, you can toboggan down a 4.5 km long toboggan run. Along the way, you can choose whether to go to Going or Ellmau. The toboggan run is also open in the evening on some days. On those evenings, several huts along the route stay open for tobogganists. In Ellmau, you can test your fitness on Thursday evenings during a climb on tour skis up the blue valley slope. Panorama restaurant Hartkaiser is the finishing point and stays open, especially for this Skitour evening.
